5 Artists We Are Excited To See At Sound On Sound This Weekend

Words by Carson Huffer

Connecticut’s Seaside Park is going to be rocking out this weekend with the inaugural landing of Sound On Sound Festival this Saturday and Sunday. From the creators of NYC’s Governors Ball Festival, Sound On Sound will feature a stacked line up of 25 artists across two stages, as well as a massive list of world class food and beverage vendors to keep festival goers ready to rock. The lineup is primarily indie and indie rock, featuring headliners Stevie Nicks, The Lumineers, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, and Brandi Carlisle. With no overlapping sets I am excited to catch every performance, but here are the five artists I’m most excited to see this weekend!

1. Stevie Nicks: Saturday, 9:30pm at Seaside Stage

The effervescent and iconic Stevie Nicks closes out day one of Sound On Sound with an hour and a half long set sure to encompass a variety of hits. The fleeting witch energy of Stevie Nicks will be perfectly placed on the beautiful water at Seaside Park, certain to make fans swoon and dance along to longstanding favorites like “Landslide” and “Rhiannon”.

2. Noah Kahan: Sunday, 3:45pm at Seaside Stage

Few artists are having as meteoric of a year as Noah Kahan. Following the landmark virality of new singles “Stick Season” and last week’s “Northern Attitude”, Kahan is riding high through his poignant and vulnerable indie folk. With the full Northern Attitude album set to release next month, as well as a variety of hits from his previous works including 2019’s “False Confidence,” Noah is set to make a splash on Sunday in Bridgeport.

3. The Head And The Heart: Sunday, 4:30pm at Sunset Stage

Indie folk finds a home in the sound of The Head And The Heart. With this month’s release of their latest EP Every Shade Of Blue (Acoustic) featuring an acoustic sampling of songs from April’s Every Shade Of Blue, their set is certain to be a blend of powerful new tracks and their iconic discography from the last ten years. We’re specifically hoping to hear 2011’s “Rivers and Roads,” 2019’s “Honeybee,” and this year’s “Virginia (Wind In The Night)”.

4. Drew Angus: Saturday, 12:45pm at Seaside Stage

Kicking off the Seaside Stage for the weekend is Connecticut’s own Drew Angus. Exploring pop rock through his own songwriting, Angus has been featured on major shows such as Saturday Night Live and American Idol. We’re most excited to hear his heartfelt love song “Made To Love You” and his latest mashup release of “Royals / Midnight Rider”.

5. The National: Sunday, 8:15pm at Sunset Stage

Emerging during the garage rock surge of the early 2000’s, The National has become a staple in the hearts of indie rock fans worldwide. Their most recent collaborations of “Coney Island” with Taylor Swift and “Weird Goodbyes” with Bon Iver have both met critical acclaim, and their 8 studio albums over the last 20 years hold some of my personal favorite songs in existence. While they certainly cannot play their entire discography in their hour-long set, we’re certain The National’s set will be a stunning closer for the Sunset Stage.
