Show Recap: Movements

Review by: Maddisen V

If there's one thing that's consistent about Movements, it's their ability to evolve while staying true to their core essence. Their performance at Soma in San Diego on April 27, 2023, was a testament to this growth. As a fan who has witnessed their journey, I can confidently say that Movements continues to exceed expectations with each live show.

From the moment they stepped on stage, Movements exuded a level of confidence and polish that comes with years of honing their craft. Despite their rising popularity, they remain humble and grateful, a quality that only adds to their charm.

This performance marked a significant stop on Movements' tour promoting their newest album, "Ruckus!". Despite the album's title hinting at chaos, what the audience experienced was a masterful blend of emotions meticulously crafted by the band. "Ruckus!" explores a diverse range of themes, showcasing Movements' skill in capturing the raw authenticity of human experiences.

One of the highlights of the night was the seamless integration of their new material with crowd favorites from their previous albums. Fans rocked out and belted their hearts out to songs like "Daylily" and "Colorblind" from the iconic "Feel Something" album, as well as "Kept" from "Outgrown Things" while crowd-surfing and moshing, amplifying the already electrifying vibe of the show. The setlist was meticulously curated, ensuring that there wasn't a single dull moment throughout the show.

What sets Movements apart is their ability to connect with their audience on a profound level. Whether they're belting out anthemic choruses or delving into more introspective moments, there's an undeniable sincerity to their performance that resonates with fans.

In essence, Movements' live show at Soma was a perfect encapsulation of everything that makes them such a beloved band. With their infectious energy, impeccable musicianship, and emotionally resonant lyrics, they continue to solidify their place as one of the most compelling bands in the post-hardcore scene.
