Single Review: Let You Go by Backeons

Review by Isabelle Turner

In the realm of lo-fi music, Backeon’s latest track “let you go” emerges as an emotional and poignant masterpiece that navigates delicate emotions of heartbreak. The song is weaved upon a beautiful backdrop of change and moving on. As the singer moves through a difficult journey of emotions, it is clear that they are finding comfort in moving on.

“let you go” is Backeon’s debut single. They released this song as the only single off of their new album, Enough Sound, which is out now. The album fits in the song perfectly, finding its place in the beginning, while the album is beginning to hit its climax. The album has an incredible sound to it, with songs like “another trip around the sun” and “annabel lee” while concluding with the track “the story ends”. Enough Sound is an incredible testament to the talent that Backeons has.

The track opens with a gentle acoustic guitar, setting a tone for a melodic and intense soundscape journey that carries throughout the rest of the track. Backeon’s ability to convey raw emotions with vulnerability through a softness and soulful approach is remarkable and makes listeners immediately drawn in. “let you go” thrives on simplicity. It recognizes the power that instrumentals can carry throughout a track. The carefully crafter instrumental arrangement paints a dreamy soundscape that screams lo-fi. The incredible backing mimics the restrained drum pattern, complementing the introspective lyrics. Lyrically, Backeons dives headfirst into the theme of letting go, exploring the complexity of an impending goodbye. The production is marked by an unwavering polished element to it. The unhurried pace draws the listener into a contemplative state, promoting connection with the themes presented. The low-fi aesthetic serves a vessel for authenticity and vulnerability, even when it may seem difficult.

Backeon’s “let you go” stands alone as a poignant and emotional embracement of the themes of loss, and finally letting go from a past relationship. The song is mature beyond their years and fits into the lo-fi genre with ease. The song is an incredible indication of what Backeons has awaiting them.
