Premiere: Comfort Creature by Liv.

Review by Angelina Singer

If you’re looking for a song that’s both a hug and an understanding space to curl up and relax in, this one is just the ticket. The latest earworm “Comfort Creature” from indie folk pop artist Liv. is one of the singles off her upcoming sophomore album, and it’s full of stripped-down musical moments that add to the overall soft and cozy sweater feeling. That could also be some of the expertise of producer Annamarie Rosanio, known for her visionary storytelling compatibility and passion for bringing indie music to life. The minimalist mix composed primarily of acoustic guitar, subtle brushes of percussion, and ethereal vocal harmonies contribute to this calming, honest jam of a tune.

“Your soul’s the only home I know / Tragic how it so happens / you’re the only one who’s got a seat to this show” nods at an intimate love affair gone south long before the embers cooled. To be able to love, you have to be willing to get hurt – and I love the dichotomy of this theme and the way Liv so effortlessly outlines the familiarity and the danger of getting comfortable with someone who turns out to be more creature than comfort.

There’s also a fun Alice in Wonderland feeling about the lyrics, where Liv. mentions a rabbit, feeling like a fool, and the tumultuous dangers of love. Sometimes, in love (or in life), it’s just really hard to let go. Even when you know you have to, it’s rarely that simple and easy. No matter what Liv. has been through, or what the listener might have experienced in their own life, “Comfort Creature” is an easy song to get lost in. Enjoy this early listen exclusively for Tongue Tied magazine and be sure to follow Liv. on Spotify and Instagram for the rest of the album when it drops later this year!
