Live Show Review: Trinity of Terror

Review by Courtney Drake

After years of fans pleading for a tour of this magnitude, Black Veil Brides, Motionless in White, and Ice Nine Kills sprung into 2022 with the Trinity of Terror Tour, exceeding all expectations! The Indianapolis date on April 8th was originally set to be at the Pavilion at Pan Am -- a venue with a capacity of about 3,000 people. However, it sold out so quickly that the show was then moved to the Blue Ribbon Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, which has a cap of about 5,000 people.

Lilith Czar opened the show with her powerful song "Feed My Chaos" off of her 2021 EP Created From Filth And Dust. Her entire set was filled with the essence of female empowerment, including other songs from her EP such as "King", a track all about women taking charge in a man's world. Admittedly, I was unfamiliar with Lilith's work up to this point, but I was seriously impressed by her confidence and stage presence alone, not to mention her riveting music blasting through the speakers.

Black Veil Brides was next to take the stage and Indianapolis was ecstatic. This was their first show back on the tour after testing positive for Covid-19 a few days prior. Noticeably back in good health, they rocked songs from every album in their discography, going all the way back to their debut album We Stitch These Wounds. Each time a new song started, fans would turn to look at their friends and scream in excitement as the first few notes of their favorite songs played. Vocalist Andy Biersack stopped the show in the middle of staple track "Knives and Pens" when it became evident that there was an injured fan in the crowd, and he made sure that the fan was taken care of before the band continued with the set. They restarted the song from the beginning after asking everyone in the crowd to "please take care of each other out there." The request was met with a bout of cheers by fans who were happy to oblige in doing exactly that.

Motionless in White followed Black Veil Brides' performance, and the crowd was just as excited to see them take the stage. The fans were lucky enough to hear their latest single "Cyberhex" from their upcoming album Scoring The End Of The World, coming this June. Their setlist included many fan favorites such as "Reincarnate", "Voices", "Rats", and more. When they began "Another Life" -- arguably one of the most heartbreaking songs in the genre -- every fan in the crowd pulled out their phones and turned their flashlights up to the rafters. With thousands of flashlights illuminating the pavilion, tearful fans belted out the lyrics to the track that always tugs at the heartstrings.

The final act of the night was Ice Nine Kills. Since the release of their 2018 album The Silver Scream, Ice Nine Kills has made their mark in the horror scene, creating music inspired by frontman Spencer Charnas' favorite horror films throughout the decades. In 2021 they put out a sequel to the album called Welcome to Horrorwood, which was composed of songs inspired by the likes of Psycho, Pet Sematary, Hostel, American Psycho, and more. Their set was almost more of a carefully orchestrated Broadway performance than a metalcore show; it featured some partial costume changes and appearances from members of their crew as characters from the aforementioned films, acting out key scenes from them onstage. There was no time for banter between songs for the closing act -- everything was perfectly timed to play out like a horror-themed musical. It was the perfect experience for the metalhead with a passion for the horror genre.

Every single artist on this ticket was beyond impressive and blew my expectations out of the water. It's been a personal honor to watch these bands grow in the scene over the past decade of my life, going from playing venues with a capacity of a couple hundred to playing pavilions with capacities of thousands and selling them out, as many of the dates on this tour have. Snag a ticket to one of the remaining dates and experience the terror for yourself...
