Review: In-Between by Sehruhtonin

Review by Ayris Ouderkirk

Singer-songwriter Sehruhtonin (Sarah Valerie) has released her new single “In-Between“; a perfect blend of haunting yet peaceful harmonies, soft vocals, and airy instrumentation. As you allow yourself to experience the world she has created within this track, you're sure to be hooked.

The atmosphere is moody and hazy as soon as the piano begins. Sarah`s vocals allow you to sink into the music and feel it all around you. Upon each listen I find myself noticing something I hadn't heard before; those intricate songwriting skills mentioned in her Spotify bio are on full display. This style of music reminds me of folk with a more modern touch. Artists like Billie Marten and Julie Byrne offer a similar modern take on older folk music and I'm in love with it all.

You know when you're listening to a song and your imagination is running wild? There is no better feeling than when music is able to transport you somewhere else and believe me, this song does not fall short. “In-Between” sends me to the beach where I sit just above the water as it crashes against the rocks. Looking out into the cloudy grey sky, I contemplate life and let myself feel even the most painful feelings. It may not be easy, but it sure is healing.

Sarah said this song is about how the process of inner growth and discovery doesn't always feel like a flourishing one. While there is a sense of defeat and hopelessness within this song, there is something about it that offers light back into your situation. This is surely not the end of a chapter, we're just getting ready to turn the page.
