Single Review: Shaving My Legs by Sorry Mom

Review by Isabel Dowell

Sorry Mom, a NYC-based femme punk trio, have announced their upcoming album, babyface, with the release of a new single, “Shaving My Legs”.

On the track, the band shares “’Shaving My Legs’ is the first track off our upcoming album, babyface, and is an introduction to the album’s overall exploration of suburban despair. This track explores the feeling of being trapped, of promising again and again to start tomorrow while tomorrow never seems to come.”

Sorry Mom by Meghan Marshall

This fast-paced track is an exciting release from Sorry Mom. It’s loud, it’s punk, and full of feminine energy. In the past, femme and punk wouldn’t be seen as acceptable but Sorry Mom is paving the way for a new wave of music. While this track provides the message of being trapped, I don’t think Sorry Mom could have been any more open with their emotional expression. They truly hold nothing back in “Shaving My Legs” and I hope to see this theme continue into their upcoming full-length.

”’Shaving My Legs’ centers the feeling of needing to be stronger, or more ‘normal’, to overcome what everyone else seems to have already overcome on their own,” the band shares.

“Shaving My Legs” gives us the first look into Sorry Mom’s debut album, babyface. With a tracklist of twelve, we are promised lyricism similar to Green Day or blink-182, but with an even more hardcore feel.

You’ll want to start keeping tabs on Sorry Mom before the release of babyface because fame is right on the horizon for this trio. Check out “Shaving My Legs” and catch their live show so you can say you knew them back when!
